A Suggested Itinerary for Inspiration
Day 1 | Kigali - Musanze
Upon our arrival, we'll have breakfast in the "Singapore of Africa," the capital influenced by German and Belgian colonization. From here, we'll head north to Musanze, enjoying a beautiful journey with a stop to observe the beloved monkeys who warmly welcome us. Upon reaching Musanze, we'll take a kayak ride along the river, enjoying the picturesque tropical landscape and the cheerful local population welcoming tourists to the area. Overnight stay and dinner in the Musanze region.
Day 2 | Volcanoes National Park and Lake Kivu
After breakfast, we'll embark on a short drive to the Twin Lakes, where we'll take an easy hiking trail along one of the lakes. At the end of the walk, we'll head to the boat for a lunch cruise on the marvelous lake with a view of the towering volcanoes. After lunch and refreshments, we'll visit one of the interesting cultural villages in Rwanda, participating in performances of songs, dances, and plays that will expose us to the fascinating world of the locals in the Musanze region. In the evening, we'll go fishing with local fishermen for a night fishing experience on the lake. Overnight stay in Gisenyi.
Day 3 | Gisenyi Coastal Town
This morning, we'll head to the beautiful coastal town of Gisenyi, located in the northern part of the country, near Lake Kivu.
Day 4 | Gisenyi and Surroundings
Today, we'll explore Gisenyi, starting with a visit to the beautiful coastal town in the northern part of the country, near Lake Kivu, which is located near the border with Congo. We'll travel through picturesque green tea plantations and stop for explanations about one of the country's main export products. After the tea plantation tour, we'll visit a local cooperative of ceramic artists. Overnight stay in Gisenyi, exploring the hot springs in the area.
Day 5 | Gisenyi - Kibuye
After breakfast, we'll embark on a beautiful drive along the scenic lake, heading towards the picturesque town of Kibuye. Upon arrival in the coastal town, we'll connect with the local crew and embark on an unforgettable boat trip on the large lake to Napoleon Islands and Coffee Islands. During the boat trip, we'll have lunch on board and then continue to Lake Kivu for an overnight stay in the Gashora area.
Day 6 | Akagera Safari Park
Today, we'll head to the Tanzania/Rwanda border to explore Akagera Nature Reserve. We'll take a pop-up roof car, allowing us a close view of the safari animals, and travel to observe the scattered savannah animals in the well-defined reserve: elephants, zebras, giraffes, antelopes, and, if lucky, the big predators of the nature reserve, the lions. Above us, a variety of birds will accompany us throughout our journey in the less crowded tourist cars. Filled with experiences, we'll return to the capital city, Kigali, for an overnight stay and dinner.
Day 7 | Kivu Hills Coffee Plantations - Kigali
After breakfast, we'll visit the coffee plantations in Kivu Hills, where lunch will also be served. After the tour, we'll return to Kigali for a farewell dinner at a restaurant, followed by an exploration of the interesting nightlife of the city.
Day 8 | Kigali
Today, we'll get to know the "Singapore of Africa," the city of Kigali: strolling through bustling markets, marveling at the impeccably clean streets, and visiting numerous restaurants scattered throughout the capital, perched on hills at an elevation of 1,400 meters above sea level. We'll visit the impressive Genocide Memorial and learn about the tragic history and destruction perpetrated against the people of Rwanda at the end of the past century. Later, we'll enjoy a traditional and festive dinner to conclude the journey. According to our flight schedule, we'll bid farewell to Rwanda and depart with memories and notes to the airport for the return flight.
