A comprehensive journey tailored for Sabbath observers, starting from Belgrade, the capital of Serbia, passing through the city of Zagreb, Plitvice Lakes Nature Reserve, the beautiful coastal towns on the Adriatic Sea, all the way to the stunning Dubrovnik. Here, we will also observe the Sabbath. Finally, we will ascend to Bosnia and conclude with one last night in the Serbian capital, Belgrade. A Suggested Itinerary for Inspiration
Day 1: Belgrade - Zagreb
Upon arrival, we will connect to the highway towards Zagreb, the Croatian capital. Upon our arrival and after completing hours of sleep on the bus, we will embark on a short panoramic tour of the city. Overnight and dinner in Zagreb.
Day 2: Zagreb
This morning we will set out to explore the city, which is a connection of two ancient cities that have existed along two adjacent hills throughout history: Zagreb is a lovely city that combines parks, museums, and impressive buildings built on two levels: upper and lower. As part of our tour of the upper city, we will see the Capitol Square, the Gradec Quarter, the twin Gothic towers of St. Stephen's Cathedral, where prominent Croatian national figures are buried, the Stone Gate, Lotrscak Tower, and more. We will continue to visit an emotional Jewish site in the form of a memorial to the Zagreb Jews who perished in the Holocaust and continue to the lower part of the city, where we will be impressed by the squares, wide streets, and beautiful gardens that adorn the city. Day 3: Zagreb - Istrian Peninsula
Today we will begin our journey along the Croatian Riviera. The Riviera, which stretches for about 700 km and comprises over 1000 islands. Today we will head to the Croatian Riviera. We will visit the second largest city in Croatia, Rijeka, where we will be impressed by the local architecture, the city hall, stroll through the picturesque promenade, and see the port. We will continue our journey along the rocky coastline through hidden coves, marinas, and huge shipyards reminiscent of iron walls overlooking the heart of the sea, and from there to the most famous resort town on the Croatian Riviera - Opatija, which was a recreational place for the Austro-Hungarian emperors. We will be impressed by the promenade - bustling with tourists from all over Europe and lined with cafes and restaurants along the stunning coastline, and see the gardens and Villa Angiolina. After the tours, we will settle in a hotel in the Riviera.
Day 4: Plitvice Lakes National Park
After breakfast, we will leave the Adriatic Riviera area, where we will return later, and head to one of Europe's most marvelous natural wonders, the Plitvice Lakes National Park. At its center are 16 turquoise-colored lakes connected by breathtaking waterfalls. Among the comfortable walking trails are wooden bridges crossing the waters. We will conclude the tour with a boat ride on the lake, which will take us back to the park's exit. At the end of the day, we will travel to accommodation and dinner in the area.
Day 5: Plitvice - Trogir - Split
Today, after breakfast, we will visit Trogir - a port and castle city on the Adriatic coast, 30 km northwest of Split, situated on two islands connected by bridges between them and the mainland. Trogir is considered the most beautiful and best-preserved Venetian city in all of Dalmatia. We will continue the tour in Split, the second-largest city in Croatia, which grew from the remains of the retirement palace of the Roman Emperor Diocletian. A unique palace that survived a unique era and a vibrant and ancient city. We will stroll through its alleys and visit Diocletian's Palace. We will visit the synagogue (if open) and the promenade. Transfer to a hotel in the area for dinner and overnight.
Days 6-7: Beautiful Dubrovnik
After breakfast, we will head towards the Adriatic Sea gem - Dubrovnik. Upon arrival in Dubrovnik, we will explore the old town with its narrow streets, fountains, and courtyards, a variety of architectural gems, palaces, and monasteries enclosed within the beautiful ancient walls from the 13th-14th centuries. We will visit the Franciscan monastery, which includes the oldest active pharmacy in Europe. We will continue to the synagogue and visit it (if open), and of course, we will not miss a tour on the surrounding walls. After the tour, we will stay for dinner and overnight in beautiful Dubrovnik. On Saturday, we can stroll on foot through some of the mentioned sites. Dinner and overnight in Dubrovnik.
Day 8: Dubrovnik - Mostar - Sarajevo
After breakfast, we will travel towards Mostar. During the journey passing through beautiful villages on the edges of the Montenegrin and Croatian border. After the journey, we will go on a tour of Mostar, a city characterized by its old Turkish bridge and ancient stone buildings, passing by nature reserves that serve as a habitat for birds and via the Neretva River Valley. We will continue towards Sarajevo, going on an initial introductory tour of the old city of Sarajevo. Dinner and overnight in Sarajevo. In the evening, we will take a bus or a tram ride in the bustling old town.
Day 9: Sarajevo
The entire day will be dedicated to tours in the fascinating cosmopolitan city of Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia: we will tour the bustling area - the old Turkish center of Sarajevo. The city has a fascinating history, where the heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne was assassinated, leading to the outbreak of World War I. It is an Oriental city where even foreigners feel at home. Its uniqueness also lies in the fact that in a relatively small area, there are religious institutions such as an Orthodox church, a Catholic church, a mosque, and a synagogue. After the tours, we will travel to Belgrade for accommodation and a farewell dinner combined with a folklore show.
