Scotland - A unique deep journey during the Edinburgh Festival days

Scotland is a country in northern Europe, located in the northern third of the British Isles. Scotland is a constitutional monarchy of the United Kingdom and is part of the European Union. Scotland is considered the world's largest producer of whisky. The turbulent history of Scotland has left a lasting mark on the landscape with numerous castles, fortresses, and pepper pot village towers. In Scotland, there is a wider variety of distilleries than in almost any other country of similar size.

A Suggested Itinerary for Inspiration

Day 1 | Edinburgh - Glasgow

We depart on a morning flight to Edinburgh, with a transfer to Glasgow upon arrival. Glasgow, the largest and most populous city in Scotland, awaits us. Upon reaching Glasgow, we'll explore this vibrant and fascinating city, strolling through the old city center and enjoying an evening bar crawl to discover the stylish and modern places that have emerged in recent years in Glasgow.

Day 2 | Stirling Castle - Loch Lomond - Inveraray

This morning, we will visit Scotland's national symbol, Stirling Castle, a stunning fortress perched on impressive cliffs that Scottish kings once nurtured and invested in, adorned by the best artists of the medieval period. We'll wander through the castle, now also serving as a national museum, and continue our journey to Loch Lomond, the largest lake in Scotland and one of the most beautiful in the country. We'll explore the tiny villages and admire the inspiring landscapes. Of course, we won't miss a boat ride on the enchanting lake and a visit to the village of Luss, which offers breathtaking views of the surrounding shores and waters. To cap off this special day, we'll ascend to a magnificent viewpoint overlooking Loch Lomond and then head to the town of Oban for overnight stay.

Day 3 | Walks in the Fort William Area

This morning, we will embark on a scenic drive through winding roads between small, picturesque, characterful villages. We'll be impressed by the abundance of the lake and the waterfalls adorning the roadside, passing through impressive forests full of beauty and in areas rich in high grasses teeming with wildflowers until we reach the sleepy town of Fort William, nestled beside the Caledonian Canal. The location of the town near Ben Nevis, the highest peak in the British Isles, makes the area very touristy, and we'll embark on special walking routes in the highlands of Britain.

Day 4 | Jacobite Steam Train - Isle of Skye

This morning, we leave Fort William and embark on a journey aboard the old steam train, the Jacobite Express (a two-hour ride), which was featured in the "Harry Potter" series from Fort William to the town of Mallaig, from where we'll take a ferry to the Isle of Skye, a wild island with many streams and fjords and its inhabitants are farmers who raise sheep and engage in fishing as their ancestors did in the picturesque area. We'll return to the island and continue on a fascinating scenic drive where we'll see the southern views of the British Isles. Towards evening, we'll arrive at Kyleakin for an overnight stay.

Day 5 | The Highlands Region

This morning we'll start our journey into the Highlands, Scotland's distinctive regions: we'll cross the bridge connecting the island to the "gateway off the island." In the town of Kyle of Lochalsh, we'll stop to view the mysterious Eilean Donan Castle and continue to explore and hike in the highlands, where fog and mystique intertwine, making it unique to Scotland. We'll visit Inverewe Gardens, a beautiful and flourishing botanical garden established in 1862, and continue to stay in the Ullapool area.

Day 6 | Ullapool - Inverness - Aviemore

This morning, we'll explore the picturesque fishing village of Ullapool in northwest Scotland. We'll travel amidst the stunning mountain scenery to the deepest lake in Scotland and one of the deepest in Europe, which has gained global publicity due to the legend of the Loch Ness Monster lurking within it - Loch Ness. After touring the lake area, we'll continue to Inverness, one of the world's whisky distillation capitals, strategically located at the crossroads of highways, sea, and waterways. After getting acquainted with the local whisky, we'll continue driving to Aviemore for an overnight stay.

Day 7 | Blair Castle - Edinburgh

This morning, we'll embark on a tour of Blair Castle with its picturesque turrets, one of the unique and impressive castles in Scotland whose construction began as early as 1269. We'll visit the castle's chambers and be impressed by the antique British furniture, weapons, and bedrooms. From here, we'll visit one of the traditional whisky distilleries and then head to Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland, where an ancient area dominated by a magnificent fortress overlooks the entire city. Day 8 | Edinburgh

Our last day of the tour will be dedicated to Edinburgh: we'll visit its fortress, the prominent site on the city's skyline, and recount the history reflected in the fortress's past. We'll stroll along the "Royal Mile" of the city and witness additional street performances taking place in this area, pass by the Princes Street Gardens, visit St. Giles Cathedral, and the historic gallery house. We'll ascend above the city to the Holyrood Park and the Nelson Monument Hilltop.
